"The short-term impacts are :
- (1) the reduction in the plants ability to photosynthesize because of all the dust and
smoke created by blasting and truck movements that will block solar
- radiation, and
- (2) the importation of Phylloxera, a root louse that destroys grape vines, which is
carried in soil and dirt in any machinery, equipment, tires, etc.,
- and is commonly found in Monterey County but not presently in Cachagua vineyards. In
addition,
- (3) the large trucks and increased dam traffic on the narrow roads would virtually
eliminate our ability to ship and receive grapes and make
- deliveries.
- (4) The long-term impact would be economic devastation."
