Senator Tom Hayden
Chair of the Senate Natural Resources Committee
Room 2080, State Capitol
Sacramento, CA 95814.

Dear Senator Hayden,

We urge you to support the passage of SB 1540 the California Dam Decommission, River Restoration, and Public Safety Act of 2000 when it is heard in the Senate Natural Resources Committee on March 28, 2000.

We have been fighting the building of a new dam on the Carmel River since the 70's.   The Carmel River Steelhead and Red -legged frog are endangered and the National Marine Fisheries has stated that a new dam would harm them further.

The people have voted against this dam, yet the Water Company and developers continue to push this as the ONLY solution.  It is time we find sustainable, environmentally sound solutions, not destructive short term ones.

Our organization consists of 90 children, (representing 90,000 trees and bushes that would be destroyed) 35 photographers, 9 community artists, the Esselen Tribe led by Tom Little Bear Nason, musicians, and 100's of other concerned citizens.  We also have support from the Citizens for Alternative Water Solutions (CAWS) and the Ventana Chapter of the Sierra Club.

Please see our website for more information...we truly care about making change that provides for a healthy environment. Many dams are no longer providing benefits.   Please help.  The costs are high.

Thank you.
K. C. Corser, Director
