Designed
for used in homes, schools, public libraries, shelters, care
centers, hospitals, pediatricians' offices, and other support
groups, Flora and the Laughing River is intended:
· To help children, ages 3 to 7 years, learn coping skills for
stressful situations and
· To empower children to help themselves, using positive imagery
to promote wellness.
This project has been funded by generous grants
from the California Wellness Foundation, Thomala Foundation,
the Arkay Foundation and by the Good Samaritan Church, with
additional sponsorship by the Monterey Bay Artist Equity Fund
and the Logan Heights Family Health Center. Inkind contributions
have been received by numerous organizations and individuals.
The video project has support from
doctors, nurses, elementary school teachers and day care workers.
Advisors include: the Lucille Packard Children's
Hospital, the Marshfield Clinic Pediatric Oncology Department,
and especially families with children in the target age group.
This project was developed by Kira Carrillo
Corser as a result of her own experience as a survivor of cancer
and from her experiences with seriously ill children. Her work
has been supported by numerous awards including grants from
the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation, the California
Council for the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
A special thanks goes to Mariquita Kraft,
MA,MHT,CRT,CSC. She has acted as a long time consultant on this
project and has written the majority of the information in the
guide.
