| “I had no idea.”
When I was pregnant, I was drinking and smoking pot. No one told me not to do it. I had two miscarriages. It turned out later that I have a condition called gestational diabetes. Drinking is about the worst thing you can do. I lost two children in that marriage. They were very serious miscarriages. |

The first one, I gave live birth to the baby. I hadn’t had any prenatal care.I went to the doctor when I was five months’ pregnant, and then, a month later, I miscarried. The baby lived about six hours and died. That had a devastating effect on my marriage. I became pregnant again within a year. With this baby, I had a placental separation at six months. The baby was stillborn, and they had to do a fetal extraction. It was very, very painful. I have no memory of it, except waking up and being in incredible pain, and in a twilight sort of dream. I had no idea that my alcohol had anything to do with it. —Marie
